Refection on My Stay at Nature Lodge

For the long holiday, Water Festival in Cambodia, my friends and I went to visit Mondulkiri. We chose Nature Lodge for our accommodation in the Senmonorom area of Mondulkiri province.

Nature Lodge

Nature Lodge

Nature Lodge provided a relaxing retreat on 6 hectares of beautiful greenery  in Sen Monorom of Mondulkiri Province. Guests could enjoy a refreshing dip in the spring located just steps away from the lodge.

Nature Lodge Village provided cosy rooms and standalone bungalows with private terraces and comfortable lounge areas. Everyone enjoyed the view of the surrounding mountains. Some bungalows had 2 separate bedrooms and a large bathroom.

The resort was a 10-minute drive from Sen Monorom City’s Bus Station and 2 km from town centre. Phnom Penh International Airport was situated 370 km away.

My Point View When I first visited

This resort has a so beautiful landscape as comparable to the landscapes in Europe or in America. If you have been to Europe, you would felt that place was similar.  During our visit, there were lots of guests came to stay.  Many visitors were from South Korea, China, Malaysia, America, Australia, and France.  Mostly they made their bookings with travel agencies and online hotel booking websites.

I stayed in a twin-bed room which had a great view of the mountain. We had a wonderful time staying there. At night, my friend was shocked because there was a frog on his bed, and this was not a bad experience. This frog made us laugh together.  Moreover, when I went to the restroom, there were many ants in there. This was a great experience in my life to stay and sleep with those bugs.

The Restaurant and Cafe served a wide variety of foods, ranging from Mediterranean, European and Cambodian dishes. The Bar and Lounge offered a selection of wines and local drinks.

The Nature Lodge gave me a great experience and it was worth the stay.   —  By Leny

Online Hotel Booking in Cambodia

IRG presents its online hotel booking website.  According to the statistic published by the Ministry of Tourism, there is an increase in the number of Cambodians traveling overseas for the past five years.  These travelers are Cambodian business entrepreneurs, government officials, and our friends and families who wish to see the world has to offer.  Our travel agency understands the need of our travelers when it comes to finding accommodation.  We have worked with many travel agency partners in Phnom Penh to provide the travel technology that would allow our partners to make hotel booking worldwide for our travelers.  With a great success, IRG now rolls out the new and improved online hotel booking website that serves both to our travelers and travel agency partners.

Raffles Hotel Le Royal – Phnom Penh

Hotel Le Royal is one of the iconic accommodations in Phnom Penh.  Opened in 1929, this hotel was home to many high profile clienteles — Charlie Chaplin, Jackie O, André Malraux, W. Somerset Maugham,  and Barack Obama.   In 1997 the hotel is later changed its name to Raffles Hotel Le Royal under the management of Fairmont Raffles Hotel International.   This luxury five star hotel lives up to its reputation, offering one the finest foods from its the kitchen of Restaurant Le Royal and serving the most exotic mixology cocktails from the Elephant Bar.

Besides its luxury accommodation, foods and drinks, this hotel provides the perfect space for business meeting and conference.   Meeting arrangement is often treated with the highest professionalism and you are sure that Raffles will leave you stressfree through out the entire process.

Personally I had meetings held at the Le Royal as large as 100 people and as small as 10 people.  Restaurant Le Royal had always been great in delivering both western and Khmer dishes catered to both our international and local guests.

Elephant Bar is another perfect after work meeting hangout spot.  This piano bar is always popular among local expats.  I find the atmosphere so welcoming and easy to relax.  From Jackie O signature drink, the long whale bone beer glass, the pool table, the piano, to the finger foods, this bar has the marriage of luxury and business hangouts.

For this month, stay with Raffles Hotel Le Royal at our exceptional long residency rate.

Where to stay in Sihanoukville

Chinese New Year is just around the corner.  People living in the cities are planning trips to the beach.  In Cambodia, there are four coastal provinces — Sihanoukville (or Kompong Som), Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong; though Sihanoukville is the most popular destination of the four.  Located only 250 km or 3 1/2 hours drive from Phnom Penh city, Sihanoukville is an easy day trip to do.

Having the longest coastal beach in Cambodia, most popular beaches in Sihanoukville are Sokha beach, Ochheuteal beach, Independence beach, Victory beach, Otres beach, and Ream National Park beach.

Accommodation in Sihanoukville varies from high-end beach resort to bungalow style.  Here are our top choices of accommodation for 2013.

Resort and Hotel:
1. Sokha Beach and Resort
2. Independence Hotel and Resort
3. Holiday Palace and Resort

Boutique Hotel:
1. OC Boutique Hotel
2. Pagoda Rock (on a hill)

Nearest Trendy Boutique Hotels to Old Market/Pub Street, Siem Reap

In the past three years there has been a sprawl of development in the boutique hotel around Siem Reap city center.  Lately the city’s property keeps going up in value, it is sometimes very difficult for hoteliers to invest in any hotel development near the city center.   Although the demand for boutique hotels is still on the rise, there is only a handful of these boutiques near the center of town.

Karavansa Boutique Hotel and Karavansa Residence are among our top choices for boutique hotels in Siem Reap.  Both places are located across from one another.   Walking from the hotel to the Old Market or the Pub Street takes less than 5 min.  The hotel features a sleeping quarter in an old french colonial building, a rustic traditional Khmer house style restaurant, a rooftop pool, and a front yard green garden.  Their service is as superb as any five stars hotels in Siem Reap.  Our experience staying at this hotel has always been very pleasant.

La Niche d’Angkor Boutique Hotel is one of the nearest boutique hotels to the Old Market and the Pub Stret.  It is located on the infamous Wat Bo Road.  By foot this hotel is about two blocks from the Hip Hop club, situated on the roundabout right across from the Old Market.  What we like best about this hotel is its large-size swimming pool.  Since this is a boutique hotel with limited rooms, the pool never feels crowded.

Other Boutique Hotels near the Old Market and Pub Street:

+ Pippeli Pensione

+ Soria Moria Boutique Hotel

+ Frangipani Villa Siem Reap

+ Viroth’s Hotel

The Sothea – luxury boutique hotel in Siem Reap

The Sothea, once was called Alila Sothea Siem Reap, sprinkles light and romance as I reminisce about this place.  It’s true beauty, with Bali influence, is indescribable.  Located on National Highway 6, the hotel is built with a giant enclosed limestone wall, all covered in green leaves and vines.  At night, a glimpse of light flickers on the tiny wooden sign, THE SOTHEA, barely noticeable to the passing cars.   The word grandiose may be the right word as you enter the main front entrance.  A wall of paintings, some seem largely displayed and framed while some hang in disarrayed patterns, descending water steps creating a square moat surrounding a green patch of grass in the middle, and an open sky enclosure are at your presence as you pass through the main gate.   Running water from the water steps mimics the sound of dripping water drops, entertaining guests as they are greeted to the check-in counter.

While looking pass the check-in counter, a view to an outdoor pool is within reach.  I’ve attached a photo below.

The Sothea Hotel Siem Reap

Rows of pool lounge chairs are escorted along both side of the pool.  At the end of it, a giant white marble stone in the shape of a sleeping woman is placed in the middle.   The rooms surrounding the pool have the most exquisite access to it.  If you’re lucky, the rooms open to the pool with a floating deck.  On a hot summer day, the guest can lounge on their private floating-on-water deck or simply jump into the pool from their deck.

The room is another indescribable sight. The floor and ceiling are covered in dark-color wood, well polished that you can almost see your own reflection.  A white cover bed sheet gives a high contrast against the dark-color wood floor.  The furniture looks like they were selected from the Pottery Barn category, hand-selected for this Victorian style room.   I never forget the white porcelain shower tub with its animal-like shaped legs, silver in color, pronged on four corners on top of the bathroom floor.  The sense of calamity is washed away as soon as you set your foot into the bedroom.

Having stayed at The Sothea, I think 5 stars is understated for this hotel.
